KAMPALA, Uganda — Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has officially congratulated Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election victory, emphasizing the deep historical bonds and shared goals between the two East African nations.
President Museveni delivered his message via the X platform (formerly Twitter) shortly after President Hassan was sworn in for a second term under tight security in the capital, Dodoma. His statement underscored the democratic confidence placed in her by the Tanzanian people.
“I congratulate Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Party on her re-election as President of Tanzania. This victory reflects the confidence that the people of Tanzania have in her leadership and vision,” Museveni wrote.
The Ugandan leader focused heavily on regional cooperation, affirming his desire to deepen the strategic partnership between Uganda and Tanzania, particularly within the framework of the East African Community (EAC).

“Uganda and Tanzania share historic bonds of friendship and cooperation. I look forward to working with President Samia to further strengthen our partnership in trade, infrastructure, and regional integration for the peace and prosperity of our peoples,” he concluded.
The congratulatory message aligns with the EAC’s principle of supporting incumbent leaders and promoting stability, even as the Tanzanian election results have been widely disputed by the opposition and criticized by various international human rights groups.
