NAIROBI, Kenya — Safaricom PLC has introduced nine new mobile number prefixes as the telecommunications company expands the range of numbers available to customers in Kenya.
The new prefixes are 0118, 0119, 0140, 0141, 0142, 0143, 0180, 0181 and 0182.
Safaricom announced the new number ranges on Monday, August 10, 2026, saying customers can obtain the new lines from Safaricom Shops and authorised dealer outlets.
“Fresh number, fresh start! Safaricom’s new number ranges are here, giving you more ways to stay connected to the people and moments that matter,” the company said in a statement posted on X.
Customers seeking a new Safaricom line can visit a company shop or authorised dealer and enquire about the availability of numbers beginning with the new prefixes.
New prefixes expand Safaricom’s number range
The rollout gives customers additional options when acquiring new Safaricom lines, adding to the prefixes already in use across the operator’s mobile network.
Mobile numbers are used across a wide range of telecommunications and digital services, including voice calls, messaging, mobile money and other digital products.

The introduction of additional number ranges is part of the numbering system used by telecommunications operators to provide new numbers as existing ranges are allocated to customers.
Safaricom did not indicate that the new prefixes would change how customers use existing mobile services or affect existing numbers.

Safaricom said the numbers are available through its shops and authorised dealer outlets across the country, although availability of specific numbers may vary between outlets.
Safaricom reminds customers to protect PINs
Alongside the announcement, Safaricom reminded customers to safeguard their personal information and security credentials.
The company specifically reiterated its warning that customers should never disclose their M-Pesa PINs to other people.
“PIN YAKO SIRI YAKO!” Safaricom said.
The reminder comes as mobile services increasingly serve as gateways to financial and digital services, making the protection of customer credentials an important part of mobile security.
Customers acquiring new lines should also ensure that registration and identification requirements are completed through authorised Safaricom channels.
The new prefixes give customers additional number choices as Safaricom continues to expand the range of mobile numbers available on its network.
