Zari Hassan admits cosmetic procedure after 'Fox Eye' look criticism
Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan says she underwent a temporal lift procedure and attributes much of the viral reaction to an experimental "fox eye" makeup style.

KAMPALA, Uganda — Ugandan socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan has publicly acknowledged undergoing a cosmetic facial procedure after days of intense online scrutiny over her altered appearance, reigniting debate about beauty standards, cosmetic enhancements and social media criticism.

The entrepreneur and reality television personality found herself at the centre of a social media storm after a video showing her with a pronounced “fox eye” look circulated widely online.

The appearance, characterised by lifted outer eye corners designed to create a sharper, almond-shaped look, quickly attracted thousands of reactions across social platforms.

While some followers praised the bold aesthetic, others mocked the look, prompting widespread discussion about cosmetic procedures and public expectations placed on celebrities.

Zari attributes viral look to makeup style

Speaking in a video shared on Tuesday 13, July 2026 evening, Zari said much of the reaction stemmed from an experimental makeup style rather than the cosmetic procedure itself.

“For some reason my face is a whole national discussion. My face is tight now, the talk of the town of all the things we have going on,” she said.

The socialite defended her makeup artist, explaining that he had attempted a more dramatic fox-eye effect that amplified the appearance of the cosmetic enhancement.

Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan has confirmed undergoing a temporal lift procedure after her viral fox eye appearance sparked widespread debate on social media.

“But now I am looking okay. It was the make-up that was a bit extra. Sammy is good. I am not going to trash him. He has done most of my face make-up and he is good. But he wanted to try something new, which was the fox eye and it obviously ended up taking my face all the way.”

Her comments came after images and videos of her appearance generated extensive commentary on social media, with users debating whether she had undergone major facial surgery.

Confirms temporal lift procedure

Addressing the speculation directly, Zari confirmed she had undergone what she described as a temporal lift, a cosmetic procedure designed to elevate the outer brow and eye area.

However, she rejected suggestions that she had undergone a full facelift.

“I am not gonna lie. I did have a face lift. It was not a full face lift. It was a temporal lift, which is just around the eyes. A full facelift involves you getting cut and all that,” she explained.

According to cosmetic surgery specialists, a temporal lift is generally considered a less invasive procedure than a traditional facelift.

It focuses on tightening and lifting the upper facial region, particularly around the temples and eyebrows, and has become increasingly popular among celebrities and social media influencers seeking a youthful appearance.

The procedure is often associated with the “fox eye” trend that gained prominence through celebrity culture and beauty influencers in recent years.

‘I am enhancing, not changing’

Zari insisted that the procedure was intended to enhance rather than transform her appearance.

The mother of five said ageing naturally brings physical changes and that cosmetic treatments should not automatically attract criticism.

“God already made me beautiful. Even before this, you know I have been very gorgeous; I have been a very beautiful woman; I am just enhancing because as we get older, things change, so I am just enhancing my looks.”

She further dismissed claims that she has undergone multiple cosmetic surgeries over the years.

“I know some people were like, ‘Oh she did surgery again.’ No. I have never touched my face.”

Growing conversation around cosmetic procedures

Zari’s comments come amid increasing acceptance of cosmetic enhancements across Africa and globally, particularly among public figures, entertainers and influencers.

Medical experts note that procedures such as Botox, fillers, brow lifts and temporal lifts have become more accessible and socially accepted, although they continue to generate debate about beauty standards, ageing and body image.

Critics argue that celebrity cosmetic procedures can create unrealistic expectations, especially among younger audiences exposed to heavily curated social media content.

Supporters, however, maintain that cosmetic enhancement is a personal choice and should be treated no differently from other forms of self-improvement.

Public figures under intense scrutiny

The episode also highlights the intense scrutiny faced by celebrities in the age of social media, where appearance-related discussions can quickly overshadow other aspects of public life.

For Zari, one of East Africa’s most recognisable socialites and entrepreneurs, the reaction demonstrated how rapidly personal choices can become subjects of national conversation.

Despite the criticism, she maintained that individuals should be free to make decisions about their appearance without fear of public judgment.

“If you have to do something that is for you that is going to make you feel better about yourself, then why not?” she said.
