BUKEDEA, Uganda — Detectives and security operatives on Friday morning raided the Bukedea residence of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, as investigations into alleged corruption, illicit enrichment and unexplained wealth accumulation continue to expand.
The operation reportedly began at around 10am, with investigators arriving at the heavily guarded upcountry property in multiple vehicles before commencing coordinated searches.
“Yes, we are at the residence of Among for a search,” a security source in Bukedea confirmed.
Sources familiar with the operation said investigators were searching for documents, electronic devices, financial records and other materials believed to be relevant to the ongoing inquiry.
The Bukedea raid marks the latest phase in a series of coordinated operations targeting properties linked to the former Speaker across the country.
Earlier this week, detectives carried out similar searches at residences in Nakasero and Kigo in Kampala, where security teams reportedly recovered documents, mobile phones, computers and luxury vehicles for forensic analysis.
Several high-end vehicles, including a black Rolls-Royce and a Range Rover bearing the personalised registration “AAA,” were later impounded and transported to the Police Forensic Headquarters in Naguru for examination.
Investigators believe the recovered materials may form part of potential evidence should prosecutors proceed with formal charges.
The widening probe follows confirmation by Inspector General of Government Aisha Batala Nalule that her office had received complaints alleging possible violations of asset declaration requirements under the Leadership Code Act.
The investigations have intensified alongside political developments within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), following Among’s withdrawal from the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament.

In a statement earlier this week, Among said she would cooperate with investigators.
“In the meantime, I pledge to continue cooperating with all ongoing investigations as initiated by the relevant organs of the state to get to the root of all the allegations raised,” she said.
Among rose to the Speakership in 2022 following the death of former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, having previously served as Deputy Speaker.
By press time, neither police nor Among’s legal representatives had issued detailed comment on the Bukedea operation. However, the continued searches signal an expanding probe aimed at mapping assets, financial records and potential links connected to the former Speaker and her associates.
