Google unveils new features to enhance child safety on its platforms

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — Google recently announced a suite of new digital products and enhanced safety features designed to protect children and teenagers while providing parents with greater control over their online experiences.

    Key initiatives include:

    • Age verification refinement: Google is introducing a machine learning model to more accurately determine the age of users, particularly teenagers, aiming to tailor experiences accordingly. This model, initially being tested in the United States, will be expanded to other countries in the future.
    • Enhanced parental controls: New family-focused controls are being implemented, allowing parents to manage their children’s device usage and access to age-restricted content across Google services.
    • Sensitive content warnings: A new feature in Google Messages provides warnings about potentially sensitive content, making it mandatory for child and teen accounts and optional for adults.
    • Continued investment in existing safeguards: Google continues to strengthen existing safety measures, including the SafeSearch Filter, age-restricted content gating on YouTube and Google Play, and teen well-being protections on YouTube.

These measures demonstrate Google’s commitment to creating a safer online environment for young users while empowering parents to make informed decisions about their children’s digital experiences.
