KAJIADO, Kenya — A 35-year-old woman has died and another is fighting for her life after an alleged stabbing attack at a rental house near Kajiado Police Station, with a suspect now in custody.

The incident occurred at about 5pm on Monday, October 12, approximately 100 metres from the police station in Kajiado town, according to investigators.

Kajiado Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss David Cheruiyot said police were alerted by a resident who heard a commotion coming from one of the rental houses.

Officers who responded to the report found two women with multiple stab wounds, both lying in pools of blood.

One victim, identified only as Mbithe, 35, was found inside the suspect’s house with wounds to her left hip and both forearms. The second, 49-year-old Doreen Akinyi, was found a few metres from the doorway with multiple injuries to her head and right hand.

The women were rushed to Kajiado County Referral Hospital in critical condition. Mbithe was pronounced dead on arrival, while Akinyi remained admitted in critical condition.

Police identified the suspect as Bernard Ochieng Owiti, 30, who reportedly walked into Kajiado Police Station shortly after the incident carrying two blood-stained knives.

Investigators said Owiti allegedly confessed to stabbing the two women before he was arrested and placed in custody.

The reported confession has not been tested in court, and the suspect should be presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Mbithe’s body was transferred to the Kajiado County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting an autopsy and formal identification.

Police have not publicly established whether the victims knew the suspect or what may have triggered the alleged attack.

The investigation remains ongoing, while Akinyi continues to receive treatment for her injuries.
