NAIROBI, Kenya — Siaya Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Odinga has been admitted to Nairobi Hospital, where he is receiving treatment after being taken to the facility on Saturday.

A source at the hospital told Vivid Voice News that the Senator remained under treatment for a chronic illness. The nature of his condition has not been publicly disclosed.

Oburu’s latest hospitalisation comes weeks after he travelled to the United Kingdom for a routine medical check-up.

On September 10, the ODM leader confirmed that he was in the UK for medical tests, saying the visit had been undertaken on the advice of his doctors and the party leadership.

At the time, Oburu said the trip was also an opportunity to rest and recover while attending to health needs associated with advancing age.

“As I attend to these personal health routine checks, that naturally come with advancing years, I view taking this step back as a deliberate, strategic moment for our movement,” he said.

He also sought to reassure ODM supporters that the party had functioning structures capable of managing its affairs during his absence.

Oburu’s return to hospital comes as he continues to serve as the party’s leader and Siaya Senator.

The veteran politician took over the leadership of ODM following the death of his younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who died in India on October 15, 2025.

Oburu has since remained active in national and party politics while overseeing ODM affairs.

There has been no public statement from Oburu or his family detailing his current condition or the reason for his latest admission.

The senator’s office and ODM had not, by the time of publication, issued a detailed update on his health.
