NYANDARUA, Kenya — David Njuguna Kiaraho, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ol Kalou in Nyandarua County, has died while receiving treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.

The announcement was made by Moses Wetang’ula, who confirmed that the legislator passed away during medical care. He did not disclose further details regarding the cause of death.

“On behalf of all Members and staff of the National Assembly, and indeed on my own behalf, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Kiaraho. In this regard, I have appointed Members to the Funeral Preparation Committee to liaise with the family and coordinate a befitting send-off for the Late Hon. Kiaraho,” Wetang’ula said.

Kiaraho, a member of the Jubilee Party, had represented Ol Kalou constituency since 2013, making him one of the region’s longest-serving lawmakers. He secured his seat during the 2013 general election and successfully defended it in both the 2017 and 2022 polls, including a competitive race against a candidate from the United Democratic Alliance.

During his tenure in the National Assembly of Kenya, Kiaraho played an active legislative role. He served on key parliamentary committees, including the Departmental Committee on Public Works, Roads and Transport, as well as the Procedure and House Rules Committee, positions that placed him at the centre of infrastructure oversight and parliamentary governance.

David Kiaraho’s career and background

Born on October 10, 1963, Kiaraho had a distinguished career spanning both public service and architecture.

Before joining politics, he worked as a principal architect at Archgrid Systems, a position he held from 1994.

His professional background in architecture informed his legislative interest in infrastructure development and public works.

Kiaraho received his early education at Munyeki Primary School and later at Park Road Primary School. He proceeded to Alliance High School for his O-Level studies and Nairobi School for A-Levels.

He later earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Nairobi, studying between 1985 and 1993.

Kiaraho’s death comes at a time when Kenya’s political landscape is experiencing heightened activity, with leaders consolidating regional influence ahead of the 2027 general election.

His passing creates a vacancy in Ol Kalou constituency, potentially setting the stage for a by-election that could test party strength in Nyandarua County.

Colleagues in Parliament have begun paying tribute to the late MP, describing him as a dedicated public servant with a strong commitment to development and legislative duty.
