NAIROBI, Kenya — The family of Stephen Mwanga, personal assistant to former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, has formally recorded statements with police as investigations into the pair’s mysterious disappearances intensify.
Mwanga’s relatives visited Karen Police Station on Monday morning to report his disappearance and provide fresh details about his role and last known movements.
His sister, Mildred Mwanga, clarified that Stephen was not a driver as initially reported, but served as Tuju’s personal aide.
“Stephen is not a driver to Raphael Tuju but a personal assistant and aide. Most of the time, he accompanies him on personal errands,” she said.
According to the family, Mwanga went missing on Saturday, and all attempts to reach him have been unsuccessful. Mildred said she last saw her brother on Thursday, March 19, when they shared a meal before he left for Yaya Centre.
“The last time I saw Stephen was on Thursday, March 19. We had a meal together, and he told me he was going to Yaya Centre,” she added.

The family only became aware of his disappearance after seeing media reports linking him to Tuju’s case, prompting them to report the matter to authorities.
His cousin, Amos Mwanga, described the family’s distress and appealed for public assistance in locating him.

“We are deeply worried and just want help to find Stephen. His two phone lines have been off since Saturday afternoon, and his car was found abandoned on Sunday,” he said.
The police have recorded the family’s statements and assured them of regular updates on the progress of the investigations.
Mwanga’s disappearance is closely linked to that of Tuju, who was reported missing on Sunday after allegedly being abducted the previous night.
Tuju’s vehicle was later found abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Karen with hazard lights on, prompting an investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
A specialised team has been deployed, and authorities are pursuing leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of both men.
The police have urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could aid in tracing the missing duo.
