GATUNDU, Kenya — The Office of Kenya’s fourth President, Uhuru Kenyatta, has addressed reports of a planned visit by a group of young people to his private residence in Ichaweri, Gatundu, clarifying that the former Head of State is not in a position to host the gathering.

In a statement issued on February 22, 2026, the Office said it had taken note of online mobilisation surrounding the proposed visit, which appeared to have gained traction on the social media platform X, with some posts suggesting a tentative date of February 25.

The statement, signed by Communications Secretary Kanze Dena, indicated that no official request or formal communication had been received, leaving the purpose, scale and organisation of the visit unclear.

While acknowledging what it described as the enthusiasm and patriotism of young people, the Office emphasised that meaningful engagement requires structured planning and prior coordination.

It encouraged organisers of youth initiatives to communicate formally in advance to facilitate orderly dialogue and ensure appropriate logistical arrangements.

The statement further reiterated that President (Rtd) Kenyatta remains open to interacting with young people, provided engagements are conducted in a manner that promotes dignity, national cohesion and mutual respect.

The clarification comes amid a broader trend of youth-driven political mobilisation online, with public figures increasingly responding to digitally organised civic actions by calling for structured engagement frameworks.

Analysts note that such dynamics reflect the growing influence of social media in shaping public discourse and political outreach, particularly among younger demographics.
