NANDI, Kenya — The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has successfully retained its political stronghold in Nandi County after Vincent Kiplimo Rutto was declared the winner of the Chemundu/Kapng’etuny Ward by-election.
At just 23 years old, Rutto has stepped into the political arena to succeed his late father, Julius Kipruto Keter, whose death earlier this year occasioned the vacancy.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Rutto the winner following a decisive contest that highlighted the ruling party’s dominance in the region.
Official results announced by the IEBC indicate a landslide victory for the young candidate. Rutto secured the seat with over 3,999 votes, establishing a commanding lead over his competitors.
The gap between the winner and the rest of the field was stark; Independent candidate Robert Kirwa finished in a distant third position with only 225 votes.

Rutto’s entry into the race generated significant local interest from the onset. Backed by the formidable UDA machinery, his candidacy resonated with residents who viewed him as the natural heir to his father’s legacy of local leadership.
By electing him, the constituents of Chemundu/Kapng’etuny have handed the young legislator a strong mandate to complete the tenure interrupted by his father’s passing.
