NAIROBI, Kenya — Two suspects, Jackson Apollo Ananda and Alvin Oduya Atieno, have been brought before the Milimani Law Courts to face charges related to the fraudulent acquisition of KES 15.36 million through a counterfeit cryptocurrency investment scheme.
The men are accused of obtaining 116,000 USD (equivalent to Ksh.15,360,000) from businesswoman Tuyishime Grace. The alleged transaction occurred on April 30, 2025, at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi.
They purportedly convinced the complainant that they could facilitate profitable trading on the cryptocurrency exchange platform, Binance.
The prosecution informed the court that the two accused individuals, along with others yet to be apprehended, knowingly made this representation despite its falsehood.
In addition to the primary count of obtaining money by false pretenses, Ananda and Atieno face a second charge of conspiracy to defraud, which contravenes Section 317 of the Penal Code.

They allegedly conspired to defraud the complainant by misrepresenting their capability to facilitate crypto trading at the specified date and location.
Appearing before Magistrate Caroline Mugo, the accused, represented by their legal counsel, appealed to the court for leniency, stating their willingness to adhere to any bail conditions imposed and assuring the court that they are not flight risks.
Magistrate Mugo subsequently directed that a pre-bail report be prepared. The court will use this report to determine the appropriate terms for their release.
The case is scheduled to be mentioned again on October 9, 2025, for a ruling on the bail application.
