NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyan musician Kevin Bahati has raised alarm after armed gangsters reportedly raided his home in the early hours of Friday, August 29. The incident occurred just days after he and his wife, Diana Marua, posted videos on social media showing off millions of shillings in cash.

According to Bahati, the incident took place between 4:27 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. when unknown assailants gained access to his compound. Although no injuries were reported, the singer said the raid left his family shaken and fearing for their safety.

Taking to his Instagram page, Bahati wrote: “Alert! Gangsters visited my home between 4:27 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. Stay away from my money or else you’ll be shot dead.”

He followed up with a formal appeal to the Inspector General of Police, urging authorities to provide additional protection for his household and the surrounding neighborhood.

“Dear Inspector General’s Office, I’m making a formal complaint. Please organize extra security for my family and neighbors. Our lives are in danger,” Bahati posted.

A million excuses? Singer Bahati breaks silence on unfulfilled Ksh 1m Harambee Stars pledge
Singer Kevin Bahati and his wife Diana Marua had promised to gift the Harambee Stars KSh 1 million if they won their crucial African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 match against Morocco on Saturday, 9 August.

The artist also shared CCTV footage from the night of the raid. The clip shows two unidentified men outside his gate, with one attempting to force it open while the other stands guard.

The footage has sparked widespread concern online, with many fans worrying about the singer’s safety, while others have cautioned against publicly showcasing wealth.

    A Controversial promise

The raid comes on the heels of Bahati and Diana’s videos displaying large bundles of cash, a move many believe attracted the criminals’ attention.

This incident is the latest in a series of controversial events for the musician.

Bahati has faced public criticism for failing to fulfill his promise to gift the Harambee Stars KSh 1 million after their victory against Morocco in the CHAN 2024 tournament.

The match, played on August 10, saw a nine-man Kenyan team defeat the African giants 1-0. Bahati, however, has denied claims of “clout-chasing” and instead posted a video of himself flaunting KSh 3 million in cash, insisting that money is not an issue for him.

He explained that he was too busy planning his son’s birthday to fulfill the promise and also claimed that Harambee Stars officials did not answer his calls, making it difficult for him to send the money.
