NAIROBI, Kenya — Former Chief Justice David Maraga has unequivocally reaffirmed his commitment to a transparent and accountable presidential campaign as he sets his sights on the 2027 general election.
Speaking during an interview on July 15, 2025, Maraga revealed his unconventional funding strategy, indicating he will primarily rely on public contributions, supplemented by his own limited financial input.
“We are going to appeal to Kenyans to contribute to our campaign,” he stated. “I will put in about Ksh 1 million to Ksh 2 million, I don’t have much money.”
Despite acknowledging his modest financial means, Maraga expressed strong confidence in the anticipated support from his well-wishers.
“There will be no funding gaps,” he asserted. “I’ve been given assurance by people who believe in me, and they will fully come to my rescue.”
To uphold the highest standards of openness in the utilization of campaign resources, Maraga pledged to publicly disclose the full campaign budget once its final figures are determined. He further committed to detailing how and where all collected funds will be expended.

“I will announce my budget publicly once it’s fully set, including how and where the funds will be channeled,” he said.
Additionally, the former Chief Justice assured the public that any excess funds collected during the campaign will be redirected to benefit the public directly.
“We are in fact hoping to get excess, and whatever is left will go to the public,” he added, reinforcing his commitment to public welfare.
With his distinguished and principled track record in the judiciary, coupled with this bold call for a people-powered movement, Maraga’s entry into the 2027 presidential race signals a campaign designed to prioritize transparency, accountability, and the restoration of public trust.
