KIAMBU, Kenya — The government is channeling over Ksh 70 billion into various projects across Kiambu County, aiming to enhance infrastructure, housing, and modern market facilities.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki emphasized that the current priority is the completion of these ongoing projects and the initiation of new ones. He urged residents to remain vigilant against individuals promoting divisive and regressive political narratives.

“When it’s time for campaigns, we will come with a scorecard of what we have achieved and what we did for the people of Kiambu and other areas. It will be time for everyone to do so including our opponents who occupied influential positions before,” he stated.

The Deputy President made these remarks on Sunday during the Kiambaa Constituency Economic Empowerment Engagement, held at Gachie Primary grounds in Kiambu County.

Among the significant initiatives highlighted are the Karura-Gachie-Gacharage Road, which is nearing completion, and the new Kiambaa KMTC Campus, valued at Ksh 200 million, along with accompanying affordable hostels for students.

Furthermore, the Wangunyi Technical Training Institute has received Ksh 70 million for its construction, supplemented by an additional Ksh 281 million allocated for student hostels.

Kiambu County is also a major beneficiary of the new modern markets program, with 26 such facilities currently under construction within the devolved unit.

Three of these markets are specifically located within Kiambaa constituency. In total, 17 affordable housing projects and 15 institutional housing projects, including units for police personnel and training institutions, are underway in Kiambu.

“When the time comes, we will delve fully in politics because we know we are the best at it. For now, we don’t want to lose focus. We want to complete ongoing projects and start others for the benefit of the people,” the Deputy President added.

The Deputy President also defended the ongoing economic empowerment forums, clarifying that their purpose is to boost the capital of small-scale businesses and empower youth and women groups, as well as SACCOs (Savings and Credit Co-operative Organizations).

“It is time to support those in need without the influence of political interests. We cannot wait for the time to entice you with our support for your votes. This is a genuine effort to help mama mboga and small scale traders,” he explained.

Concurrently, Professor Kindiki appealed to Kenyans not to be misled by power-hungry politicians into internal conflicts.

“Politics is not enmity. It is a competition of ideas and if you are elected, you thank God and serve the people. If you lose, you wait for the next opportunity and give it a try,” he stated.
