NANDI COUNTY, Kenya — Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has publicly called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of a teacher from Alliance Girls High School, following accusations of grooming and engaging in sexual liaisons with students.

Speaking on Thursday at a Thanksgiving Day event held at Kapkoros Barngetuny Secondary School in Nandi County, PS Bitok confirmed that the Ministry of Education has initiated collaboration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and relevant law enforcement agencies. This coordinated effort aims to ensure the implicated teacher is swiftly interdicted and brought to justice.

“That teacher is going to be punished. We have talked to TSC and all the other stakeholders to ensure that he is arrested,” PS Bitok stated. He further reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding learners and ensuring that all schools remain secure and protective environments. “We are not going to condone any behaviour where teachers or any other stakeholder in schools take advantage of our children,” Bitok emphasized.

He continued, “We want to condemn in the strongest terms possible any conduct by teachers, staff, or anyone in the school community who seeks to exploit students sexually. As government, we are saying such behaviour will not be tolerated.”

The Principal Secretary stressed that this critical issue extends beyond a single institution, warning that any similar cases identified in schools across the country will be met with equally swift and decisive action.

“It is not only in Alliance. Even in any other school in the country, that behaviour must stop forthwith,” he declared.

PS Bitok’s strong remarks follow widespread outrage ignited by allegations detailed in a recent investigation by Africa Uncensored. The investigative exposé accused the long-serving teacher, who also served as a Christian Union patron, of a pattern of grooming students, including arranging private dinners and leveraging spiritual authority, with alleged incidents dating back as early as 2018.

The investigation reportedly drew statements from more than two dozen former students, teachers, and staff. These accounts collectively alleged a systemic pattern of abuse that had purportedly been shielded by institutional silence, including formal complaints filed in both 2018 and 2021 that reportedly failed to elicit any action.

In the immediate wake of these deeply troubling allegations, alumni from Alliance Girls High School took to the streets in protest, demanding justice for the affected students.

Women’s rights advocacy group FIDA Kenya has also weighed in, describing the revelations as “shocking” and indicative of a grave institutional failure.

FIDA is urging for transparent investigations, the mandatory implementation of gender-based violence policies within schools, and the establishment of safe and accessible reporting systems for students.
