NAIROBI, Kenya — The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a strong warning against any illegal activities during the planned Saba Saba protests on Monday, July 7.

In a statement released on Sunday, the NPS reaffirmed its constitutional mandate to maintain peace, law, and order, emphasizing that any violations of lawful protest will be met with firm and appropriate action.

The police acknowledged widespread reports across mainstream and social media concerning upcoming demonstrations in various parts of the country.

While reiterating that Article 37 of the Constitution guarantees the right to peaceful assembly and demonstration, the NPS reminded the public that this right must be exercised strictly in accordance with the law.

The statement specifically warned that any gatherings must remain peaceful and unarmed, and that individuals found in possession of weapons would face prosecution under the penal code.

The NPS further cautioned that attempting to access or interfere with protected government installations would result in immediate legal action under the Protected Areas Act.

Criminal offenses such as looting, property destruction, road blockades, and incitement to violence were explicitly highlighted as actions that would be addressed swiftly and lawfully.

The public was also advised against provoking police officers on duty, with the NPS unequivocally stating that confrontational behavior towards law enforcement would not be tolerated and would be dealt with harshly.

While assuring the public of its professionalism and restraint in operations, the NPS underscored that any riotous or violent behavior would be met with lawful force aimed at safeguarding people and property.
