Ruto defends State House church project
President William Ruto is not shy of publicly professing his faith. Mr Ruto is fond of quoting the scripture, praying and even sobbing in public.

NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto has confirmed that a new church is indeed under construction within the State House grounds.

Speaking during a meeting with grassroots leaders from Embu County at State House, Nairobi, the Head of State explicitly clarified that the entire project is being funded through his personal resources, not public funds.

The President directly addressed the media reports, stating, “Naambiwa kwa magazeti leo wanasema najenga kanisa State House, ni ukweli. I have no apologies to make for that. Hapa State House nilikuta kanisa ya mabati. Na sijengi na pesa ya serikali, najenga na pesa yangu.”

Loosely Translated: “I am told in the newspapers today they are saying I am building a church at State House, it is true. I have no apologies to make for that. Here at State House, I found an iron sheet church. And I am not building with government money, I am building with my own money.”

Ruto faces backlash over proposed Ksh 1.2bn State House church amid economic crisis
Daily Nation report on Friday 4, July 2025 reveals President William Ruto is constructing a KSh 1.2 billion church within the grounds of State House, Nairobi.

President Ruto noted that upon assuming office, an existing iron-sheet structure was already in use for prayer services at State House, which he intends to upgrade.

The church structure President William Ruto found at State House when he took over.

During the engagement with Embu County leaders, the President reiterated the Government’s commitment to equitable development across the country.

“We will work with all leaders to transform Kenya. We are particularly keen on ensuring that our health system works so as to lessen financial burden on everyone,” he stated.
