ENTEBBE, Uganda — Uganda’s media industry is in mourning after two employees of Next Media Services were killed in a road accident along Entebbe Road while returning from a work assignment early Friday 7, August 2026.
The broadcaster identified the deceased as Badru Kasirye, a producer, and Isaac Ndamagye, who both died following the crash in the Namulanda area.
Entertainment journalist Brian “Makona” Ssemanda, who was travelling with them, survived the crash and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he was receiving treatment under close medical supervision.
The three had been covering a celebrity boxing event featuring entertainers Chicken Chicken and Shawa before the accident occurred.
In a statement issued on Friday, Next Media confirmed the tragic incident and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.
“Badru Kasirye and Isaac Ndamagye unfortunately lost their lives in the accident. Brian ‘Makona’ Ssemanda is in the Intensive Care Unit receiving treatment, under close watch from his medical team. We remain in direct contact with the hospital and will share updates on his condition as they become available,” the company said.
The broadcaster also appealed for privacy for the affected families during the difficult period, adding that further updates on Ssemanda’s condition would be communicated once officially confirmed.
News of the crash triggered an outpouring of grief across Uganda’s media fraternity, with journalists, broadcasters, entertainers and members of the public paying tribute to Kasirye and Ndamagye while wishing Ssemanda a speedy recovery.

Colleagues described the deceased as dedicated media professionals whose contributions had left a lasting impact on Uganda’s broadcasting industry.
The circumstances surrounding the accident were not immediately clear.
Police had not released an official statement detailing the cause of the crash or whether investigations had established what led to the fatal collision by the time of publication.
The tragedy has renewed concerns over road safety in Uganda, where road crashes continue to claim thousands of lives annually despite ongoing enforcement campaigns, public awareness initiatives and government efforts aimed at improving road safety.
