NAIROBI, Kenya — Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has sparked debate online after questioning digital creator Eve Mungai’s decision to move away from celebrity interviews and entertainment journalism, urging her to return to the type of content that initially made her one of Kenya’s most recognisable online personalities.
Speaking in a video that has since circulated widely on social media, Mosiria said it was unfortunate to see a creator who had built a successful brand through professional interviews abandon a format that had earned her national recognition.
“Ni uchungu sana kuona mwanadada ambaye content yake ilikuwa inauza. Alikuwa anainterview mpaka viongozi tajika, watu wakubwa kwenye serikali walipita kwenye mikono yake,” Mosiria said.
The county official argued that Eve Mungai’s earlier content offered value to audiences by providing access to influential personalities from the entertainment, political and business sectors.
He contrasted that with some of her recent productions, which he claimed rely heavily on provocative themes and content that may not align with the professional image she had previously cultivated.
Mosiria further claimed that veteran media personality Jalang’o had previously advised Eve to continue investing in content creation after she publicly announced a shift towards business ventures, including the sale of mobile phones.
Offer to reconnect Eve with Director Trevor
Mosiria also addressed Eve Mungai’s former professional partnership with Director Trevor, suggesting that the two could benefit from working together again.
He said he was prepared to personally reach out to Trevor and encourage a professional collaboration if both parties were willing.
“I will personally reach out to Director Trevor and ask him to help Eve Mungai produce professional content because what Eve is currently doing is, in my opinion, unprofessional—especially for someone we have always known as one of Kenya’s top content creators,” Mosiria said.

According to him, Eve’s influence and talent could be used to create content that educates, informs and positively impacts society.
“I believe her talent and influence can be used to create content that informs, inspires and positively impacts society. I will do my best to ensure they work together professionally, provided Eve Mungai is willing. As for Trevor, I will personally speak to him,” he added.
Mixed reactions online
Mosiria’s comments triggered mixed reactions across social media platforms, with some users supporting his views while others argued that content creators have the right to evolve beyond the formats that first made them popular.

One social media user dismissed the criticism, arguing that creators should be free to pursue business opportunities and alternative content strategies.
Others questioned why public officials were commenting on the personal and professional decisions of content creators.
Liz Jackson defends creative freedom
Content creator Liz Jackson was among those who publicly defended Eve Mungai, arguing that digital creators should not be confined to a single style of content throughout their careers.
“You need to allow content creators or people in the public space to evolve. Just because she is not loitering around with a microphone asking people for interviews doesn’t mean she is not bringing money to the table. She has businesses, so stop advising people,” Jackson said.
Her remarks reflected a broader conversation taking place within Kenya’s digital content industry, where creators increasingly diversify into entrepreneurship, lifestyle branding, product marketing and other ventures beyond their original niches.
Eve Mungai’s rise in digital media
Eve Mungai built her reputation through celebrity interviews and entertainment reporting, becoming one of Kenya’s most influential digital media personalities.
Her platform attracted millions of views through interviews with musicians, actors, influencers and public figures, helping establish a new generation of independent online entertainment journalism.

Director Trevor played a significant role in the production and growth of the platform during their professional partnership, which ended following the pair’s widely publicised separation.
Since then, both have pursued independent projects, with Trevor continuing to produce digital content while Eve explores new business and media opportunities.
A wider debate in Kenya’s creator economy
The discussion surrounding Eve Mungai highlights a growing debate within Kenya’s rapidly expanding creator economy: whether digital personalities should remain loyal to the content formats that built their audiences or reinvent themselves as their careers evolve.
While some audiences prefer consistency and familiar content, others argue that creators must adapt to changing market trends, audience behaviour and personal ambitions.
As Kenya’s digital media landscape continues to mature, the balance between audience expectations, creative freedom and commercial success is likely to remain a subject of intense public discussion.
