NAIROBI, Kenya — Police have launched investigations into two separate apartment fall incidents in Nairobi after two young women sustained serious injuries in falls from multi-storey residential buildings over the weekend, raising fresh concerns about safety and unexplained incidents in the city’s high-rise estates.

In the first case, a 26-year-old woman remains in critical condition after reportedly falling from the third floor of an apartment building along Dennis Pritt Road in Kilimani on Saturday night.

According to police, the woman was found unconscious and was rushed to hospital after falling through a window under circumstances that remain unclear.

Boyfriend among those detained

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had been attending a social gathering with friends at the apartment before the incident occurred.

Police officers who responded to the scene recovered bottles of alcoholic beverages and drinking glasses from the apartment.

Investigators have since detained the woman’s boyfriend and two other individuals who were reportedly present during the gathering to assist with inquiries.

Authorities believe several additional people may have been at the apartment during the incident but left before police arrived.

Detectives are now tracing those individuals as part of efforts to reconstruct events leading up to the fall.

Second woman survives sixth-floor fall in Thome

In a separate incident, a 25-year-old woman survived a fall from the sixth floor of an apartment building in Thome Estate on Saturday morning.

Police said the woman fell from the sixth floor of Father’s Hub Apartment, sustaining multiple injuries but remaining conscious when emergency responders arrived.

A preliminary medical assessment showed she suffered deep cuts to both lower limbs and her right hand, while also complaining of severe back pain.

Emergency personnel administered first aid before transporting her to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for specialised treatment.

Detectives have opened an investigation to determine whether the fall was accidental or resulted from other circumstances.

Rise in apartment-related incidents

The incidents come amid increasing concern over apartment-related accidents and unexplained falls in Nairobi’s rapidly expanding residential developments.

Security experts note that investigations into such incidents often focus on witness accounts, CCTV footage, building safety conditions, alcohol consumption and the possibility of foul play.

Police have not indicated whether the two incidents are related.
