KAMPALA, Uganda — Former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among reportedly held a private meeting with President Yoweri Museveni on June 7 amid ongoing investigations into her wealth, asset declarations and conduct while in office.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Among had sought an audience with the President for some time before eventually securing a meeting at State House.
Sources said the two held a brief discussion during which Among allegedly sought forgiveness from the President for any mistakes she may have made during her tenure as Speaker of Parliament.
The sources further claimed that Museveni informed her that matters concerning her remain under active investigation by the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and that the inquiries should be allowed to run their course.
According to the sources, the President indicated that no decisions would be made before investigators completed their work and submitted their findings.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of ongoing investigations into allegations relating to asset declarations, corruption and suspected illicit enrichment.
Authorities have previously confirmed that investigations involving Among are underway, although no official findings have been released and no court has determined any wrongdoing.
Sources familiar with the investigations alleged that Among raised concerns about vehicles and other property seized during recent security operations, arguing that some of the assets were acquired through her private business interests rather than public funds.
The sources claimed she requested the return of some of the impounded assets, but that Museveni advised her to await the outcome of the investigations.
Neither State House nor Among’s representatives had publicly commented on the details of the reported meeting by the time of publication.
Investigations ongoing
The reported discussions come as investigative agencies continue examining matters linked to Among’s assets and financial interests.
Recent operations by security agencies reportedly included searches at properties associated with the former Speaker and the seizure of documents, electronic devices and several high-value vehicles for further examination.

However, authorities have yet to publicly release the outcome of the investigations or announce any criminal charges arising from the inquiries.
Among, who served as Speaker of the 11th Parliament, remains one of Uganda’s most influential political figures despite stepping aside from the race for Speaker in the current Parliament.
Political observers say the outcome of the ongoing investigations could have significant implications for her future political career.
For now, the investigations remain active, with officials yet to indicate when final reports will be completed or whether any legal action will follow.
