NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyan media personality Mungai Eve has expanded her entrepreneurial portfolio with the launch of EK iStore, a new mobile phone business, even as she publicly dismissed persistent rumours about her personal life.

The digital content creator unveiled her shop, EK iStore, marking her latest move into business amid a growing trend of Kenyan influencers diversifying beyond media into retail and brand-driven enterprises.

While announcing the venture, Mungai Eve also addressed ongoing speculation linking her to relationships with politicians and married men, claims that have circulated widely on social media.

Love life in the spotlight

Mungai Eve’s personal life has remained a subject of sustained public interest, particularly following her rise to prominence alongside social media producer Director Trevor. The two built a widely followed YouTube brand, earning admiration as both a couple and a creative partnership, with Trevor managing production while Eve fronted the content.

Their eventual split, however, unfolded publicly, marked by a series of online exchanges and allegations that drew significant attention across Kenya’s digital space. In the aftermath, Trevor moved on and later married Kiki Yvonne, while Eve opted to keep her romantic life largely out of the spotlight.

Despite her low profile, speculation has persisted, with online chatter linking her to wealthy figures and even a sitting Member of Parliament (MP), claims she has now firmly rejected.

“You will never find me with a married man. You wake up one day and hear Eve is with this MP, and I wonder where such stories come from. There has never been any evidence about it,” she said.

Eve further suggested that some of the narratives may stem from individuals she previously worked with, following their fallout. Even so, she struck a measured tone, emphasising personal choice in relationships.

“I don’t think there is a problem if someone decides to date whoever they want,” she added.

Her remarks come at a time when public scrutiny of influencers’ private lives remains intense, particularly for high-profile female personalities navigating both celebrity and business spaces.

Mungai Eve’s entry into the phone retail sector reflects a broader shift among Kenyan digital creators who are leveraging their online influence to build offline businesses.

With Kenya’s smartphone penetration continuing to rise, driven by demand for affordable devices and internet access, the mobile phone market has become an attractive investment space for young entrepreneurs and influencers alike.

Industry analysts note that personalities with strong online followings often translate their visibility into customer trust, giving them a competitive edge in retail ventures such as electronics, fashion, and beauty.

Her decision to directly address relationship rumours signals a growing tendency among public figures to control their narratives in the face of online speculation.

In recent months, several Kenyan celebrities have increasingly spoken out against misinformation and intrusive commentary surrounding their personal lives.

For Mungai Eve, the launch of EK iStore represents both a business milestone and a strategic step toward brand diversification, positioning herself not just as a media personality, but as a young entrepreneur navigating Kenya’s evolving digital economy.
