MIGORI COUNTY, Kenya — A multi-agency security team successfully located and dismantled explosive devices that were strategically planted along the Nyatike Bridge in Migori County, just one day prior to President William Ruto’s scheduled visit to the area.

According to a police report obtained by Citizen Digital, the presidential advance security team—which included personnel from the Kenya Police Service, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), and the Bomb Disposal Unit—retrieved the dangerous materials.

The haul consisted of seven pieces of gel explosives and a detonating cord approximately two meters in length. These materials were found concealed at the edge of the Nyatike Bridge, situated about four kilometers east of the Macalder Police Station.

Authorities confirmed that the operation to remove the explosives was completed without incident or casualties.

Preliminary Findings and Ongoing Investigation

Investigators have made initial observations regarding the placement of the devices. They noted that the precise hole used to conceal the explosives appeared to have been drilled using a compressor machine.

The explosive was discovered on the evening of Monday, December 16, under River Kuja Bridge along the Migori-Sori Road.

Preliminary findings suggest that the explosive material may have been placed at the site several months ago.

Following the safe removal, the Bomb Disposal Unit transported the collected explosives from Migori for detailed forensic analysis. The scene itself was thoroughly processed by the investigative teams.

Authorities have confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway to establish the precise motive behind the planting of the devices.
