KAMPALA, Uganda — Former government spokesperson and seasoned political figure Ofwono Opondo is poised to represent older persons in Uganda’s Eastern Region in the 12th Parliament (2026–2031) after being elected unopposed on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
According to the Electoral Commission’s schedule for special interest group elections, the nomination and verification process for candidates representing older persons concluded with Ofwono Opondo emerging as the sole contender in his category.
His unopposed status effectively secures him the seat in the forthcoming 12th Parliament.
Opondo, who has served for years as Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre and remains a senior figure within the National Resistance Movement (NRM), is expected to bring extensive experience in communication, governance, and public administration to his new role representing older citizens from the Eastern Region.
