BONDO, Kenya — A delegation of prominent women political leaders, led by People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua, visited the family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at their Opoda Farm home in Bondo, Siaya County, on Monday, November 3, 2025, to express their condolences and solidarity.

The group, which included former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, PLP Secretary General Asha Bashir, and several other women leaders, traveled to Bondo for what was described as a deeply emotional and personal visit with Mama Ida Odinga and her family.

Martha Karua used her X platform (formerly Twitter) to reflect on the depth of their relationship with the Odinga family, emphasizing the bonds forged through Kenya’s pro-democracy movement.

In her post, Ms. Karua wrote: “Today, accompanied by women leaders @mamangilu@AshaBashir254 , and many others in visiting @IdaOdinga and the Odinga family at Opoda Farm to express our condolences and solidarity following the passing of Rt. Hon. @RailaOdinga.”

She highlighted the shared sacrifices that defined their generation’s struggle for fundamental freedoms:

“Mama Ida and I have shared many moments alongside Raila in the long and difficult journey of Kenya’s Second Liberation during the struggle for democracy, justice, and human dignity that defined our generation. As we mourn a comrade and a patriot, we also renew our commitment to the ideals he lived and fought for. His legacy reminds us that the work of liberation is not complete and it is upon us to carry it forward with courage and fidelity.”
