KAMPALA, Uganda — Jibu Uganda, a leading bottled water company, has publicly acknowledged a viral social media video raising concerns over the quality and purity of its packaged water.

In a press statement issued late Friday 10, October 2025, the company confirmed the incident and apologized to the public, while unveiling measures to reinforce quality assurance and curb counterfeit products in the market.

The video, widely circulated online by an influencer, reportedly showed impure water from a bottle sold to a customer, sparking widespread concern about the safety of Jibu’s products.

In its statement, Jibu Uganda took ownership of the situation, pledging to act decisively to protect its consumers. “Firstly, we would like to take ownership and apologize that this incident occurred,” the company said, adding that it had responded directly to the influencer on social media.

The company is also proactively targeting counterfeit bottled water products, which it said may have contributed to the viral incident.

How customers can identify counterfeit or compromised bottles

Jibu urged its customers to be vigilant and report any water bottles that do not meet hygiene or safety standards. The company outlined three key markers for identifying potentially compromised products:

  1. Seal integrity – Bottles with broken external tamper-evident wraps, improperly sealed caps, or missing internal seals.
  2. Missing identification – Bottles lacking production date stamps.
  3. Hygienic standards – Bottles that appear unhygienic or fail to meet Jibu’s established standards.

Concluding its statement, Jibu reaffirmed its dedication to providing safe, clean, and reliable water.

“Jibu remains committed to providing safe, clean, and reliable water to all our customers. We appreciate the trust our customers place in us and will continue to uphold the highest standards of quality and safety,” the company said.

By swiftly addressing the matter and engaging its customer base in vigilance, Jibu aims to restore confidence in its brand while safeguarding public health.
