KISUMU, Kenya — Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured Kenyans that the upcoming police recruitment exercise will be free from corruption.
In an advertisement published in the Daily Nation on Friday, September 19, the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) noted that the recruitment exercise will be conducted between Monday, October 3, and Thursday, October 9, at selected centres nationwide.
Speaking in Kisumu County, Murkomen stated that the government is committed to eliminating bribery and ensuring that only deserving candidates join the National Police Service (NPS).
The CS emphasized the need for a fresh start, acknowledging that corruption has long tarnished the image of the NPS. He stressed that this recruitment would be a crucial step in rebuilding public trust.
“The recruitment must provide opportunities to deserving Kenyans. From the word go, we want those deserving recruited to the NPS, not those who have bought their way in,” the CS stated.
He also revealed that Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and officials from the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) are in a meeting to finalize the regulations that will guide the process.

“The National Police Service and the Commission are in a meeting and will be giving us clarity of direction. I have been briefed, but I do not want to preempt their outcome,” he added.

Transitioning to electoral matters, Murkomen also warned against malpractice ahead of the mini polls scheduled for November. He declared that the government would not tolerate electoral offenses and that security agencies are prepared to maintain law and order.
“Aspirants should provide their campaign schedules, which are necessary for security support. We are ready to reinforce county security teams with officers from other parts of the country,” the CS noted.
He further cautioned candidates against disrupting their opponents’ activities, stressing that any individual found in violation by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) would face arrest and prosecution.

“Anyone who knowingly provides false information or information that is false or misleading in any significant way is guilty of a crime and faces a maximum fine of KSh 200,000, a maximum sentence of two years in prison, or both,” it cautioned.
