NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyan rapper, singer and songwriter Nyamari Ongegu, widely known as Nyashinski, has secured a landmark recording deal with the global music label, Sony Music. The announcement coincided with the release of his new single, “Tai Chi,” signaling the launch of his upcoming projects under the new partnership.

“Big welcome to the ‘Sony Music Africa’ family, @realshinski 🇰🇪 🐐. ‘Tai Chi’ out at midnight EAT,” Sony Music stated in a post on its official Instagram account.

“This partnership is about more than music; it’s about elevating the culture and giving East African voices the global platform they deserve,” Watson said.

Nyashinski expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, viewing it as a major recognition of East African music.

Nyashinski began his career in the early 2000s as a member of the Kenyan rap trio ‘Kleptomaniax.’

After the group disbanded, he spent several years abroad before making a highly anticipated return in 2016 as a solo artist.

His comeback was marked by hit singles such as “Now You Know” and “Mungu Pekee,” the latter of which has amassed nearly 3 million streams on Spotify.

Since then, he has consistently produced chart-topping music, and this partnership with Sony Music Africa is expected to further propel his career on the global stage.
