NAIROBI, Kenya — Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has publicly accused the Kenya Kwanza Government of allegedly withdrawing his official security detail. The accusation follows his participation in the widespread protests on June 25, 2025.
In a statement released on Thursday, MP Owino asserted that this action is not merely an act of revenge but represents a direct assault on democratic principles.
He clarified that his involvement in the protests was not an act against the nation, but rather a stance taken for its future.
“I exercised my democratic right to protest peacefully against the actions of a government that is failing its citizens,” he declared.
Owino views the alleged withdrawal of his security as a tactic of intimidation designed to suppress dissenting voices.
“This is not just an attack on me—it is an attack on democracy itself. When elected representatives are punished for standing with the people, it is a sign of a government that fears accountability,” he stated.

Despite this development, the outspoken legislator has pledged that he will not be silenced. He urged Kenyans to maintain vigilance, unity, and courage in the face of such actions.
“Kenyans are my security,” he affirmed. He further called upon citizens to actively hold their leaders accountable and to reject any threats directed at those who champion justice and truth.
Owino’s message resonated widely, drawing significant support and encouragement from various Kenyans, including prominent public figures such as Wanjiku Stephens.
