NAIROBI, Kenya — Police in Nairobi have launched an investigation into the death of a young female police officer, who tragically passed away following an alleged abortion procedure at a private medical facility in the Kawangware neighborhood.

The incident was reported early Tuesday morning by Inspector Christine Muthoni of Muthangari Police Station.

According to the official report (OB No. 05/18/06/2025), the unnamed woman’s body was brought to Eagle Hospital around 12:20 a.m. in a private vehicle registered KCP 623Y.

Medical staff at Eagle Hospital confirmed her death, attributing it to complications suspected to be related to an abortion.

Preliminary findings indicate she had been transferred from Kabiro Hospital, also in Kawangware, located approximately seven kilometers southeast of Muthangari Police Station.

Officers from Muthangari Police Station, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Dagoretti, and a Scene of Crime (SOC) unit swiftly responded to the scene. They discovered the deceased’s body inside the white vehicle, lying in a pool of blood.

Further investigation revealed the deceased to be an Administration Police Constable, typically assigned to the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) in Embakasi, who was reportedly on leave at the time of the unfortunate incident.

Investigators suspect the officer underwent an induced abortion, which may have led to the fatal complications. The estimated time of death was around 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to her transportation to Eagle Hospital.

In connection with the officer’s death, two individuals have been taken into police custody: Bruce Matte, identified as a nurse at the facility, and Indombuhai Humphrey, the driver of the vehicle. Both are currently assisting police with ongoing inquiries.

The officer’s body has been moved to the City Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is scheduled to ascertain the precise cause of death.
