KAKAMEGA, Kenya — President William Ruto has voiced strong criticism against opposition leaders, asserting that many of his detractors offer no substantive development agenda for Kenya.

Speaking during a church service in Lugari, Kakamega County, on Sunday, June 15, 2025, President Ruto called upon all leaders to prioritize national unity and dedicate efforts to resolving critical national challenges.

The President simultaneously dismissed the “Ruto must go” slogan, branding it as “empty rhetoric” that fails to provide solutions for the nation’s urgent issues.

“Hawa watu wengine hawana mpango. We cannot hand over to people hawana mpango. Ati mpango yao ni Ruto must go, must go itakusaidia na nini?” Ruto stated.

Loosely translated, this means: “These other people have no plan. We can’t hand over to people who have no plan. So their plan is ‘Ruto must go,’ ‘must go’ — how will that help you?”

He advised the opposition to instead concentrate on practical solutions for youth employment, agricultural improvement, educational advancement, and economic growth.

President Ruto further remarked, “Hata mkiona wakiongea wako na kisirani mingi sana, sijui ni kama nani aliwakosea. Na kama wako na kisirani na mimi, wawachane na Wakenya.”

Loosely translated, this means: “Even when you see them talking, they have a lot of bitterness, I don’t know who wronged them. And if they have bitterness with me, they should leave Kenyans out of it.”

President Ruto reiterated his government’s steadfast commitment to key priorities, including creating employment opportunities for the youth, enhancing agricultural productivity, ensuring access to affordable education, and improving healthcare services.

These remarks by President Ruto come amidst a period of elevated political tensions within the country, marked by renewed calls from some opposition figures to limit his presidency to a single term. Sources
