Paris Saint-Germain delivered a dominant performance on Saturday, dismantling Inter Milan 5-0 to secure their first-ever Champions League title in a memorable final.
Inter Milan proved no match for the French club, who recorded the largest-ever victory margin in the 70-year history of the European Cup and Champions League final.
This triumph also completed a historic treble for PSG, adding the Champions League trophy to their French Cup and Ligue 1 titles.
Beyond the historic win, the night held a deeply emotional significance for PSG coach Luis Enrique, who received a moving tribute from the fans in remembrance of his late daughter. Enrique’s daughter, Xana, tragically passed away at the age of nine in 2019 after battling bone cancer. Both the supporters and Luis himself paid loving tribute to her on this special occasion.
During the final match, the PSG coach was seen wearing a black t-shirt featuring a graphic image of him and his daughter planting the Barcelona flag on the ground.
This poignant image dates back to 2015 when Barcelona, under Luis Enrique’s management, won the Champions League.
Following that victory, Luis and his then five-year-old daughter Xana celebrated by planting a Barcelona flag in Berlin.
After the final whistle on Saturday, PSG fans unveiled a banner depicting the father and daughter planting a PSG flag into the ground, mirroring their celebration with the Barcelona flag a decade earlier.
“It was emotional. It’s beautiful that the supporters thought about me and my family. But I don’t need to win the Champions League or even a game to think about my daughter,” Luis Enrique said, his voice filled with emotion.
“She’s always with me. She’s supporting me, and our family, and I feel her presence,” he added, acknowledging the heartfelt gesture.
The Spanish coach also revealed that securing the Champions League title had been his ambition since joining the Parisian club in 2023.
“On my first day at the PSG campus, my French was even worse than it is today. But I said the ultimate goal for me as a coach was to fill the trophy cabinet,” the Spaniard recalled.
“The only trophy missing was Champions League. And we’ve ticked that box. We were ambitious, and we did it. It’s in the bag and it’s coming home with us tomorrow,” he concluded, celebrating the momentous achievement.
