HOMA BAY, Kenya — Thousands of Kenyans have gathered at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County to commemorate the 62nd Madaraka Day. The ceremony, presided over by President William Ruto, saw significant crowds arrive at the 12,000-seater stadium, which reached its full capacity by Saturday night.

President William Ruto has arrived at the venue, where he is joined by other prominent leaders, including ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.

The Chief Guest for this year’s national celebration is the President of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar. This marks the first time that Homa Bay County is hosting the Madaraka Day celebrations.

According to Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, the selection of Homa Bay County as the host was due to its strategic position along the shores of Lake Victoria.

This location makes it particularly fitting to underscore the chosen theme for this year’s event: ‘Harnessing Kenya’s Blue Economy for Sustainable Growth.’
