KISUMU, Kenya — President William Ruto has highlighted the significant benefits Kisumu and its surrounding areas are poised to receive from the 15,000 affordable housing units currently under construction in the project’s initial phase.
During a regional tour, President Ruto revealed that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has generously donated five acres of his family land in the Kirembe area to the national government.
This land will be used to develop additional housing units.
President Ruto commended Odinga’s gesture, stating that the government, through its housing program, will invest a total of Ksh. 3.5 billion in the donated parcel, aiming to benefit approximately 1,000 local residents.

He also noted the ongoing construction of the Lumumba affordable housing units, which are designed to assist 2,000 locals in overcoming housing ownership challenges.
Speaking at the Kirembe grounds on Thursday, where he laid the foundation stone for the multi-billion Ksh. LV Marina housing units associated with Odinga, President Ruto reiterated his government’s commitment to enabling Kenyans to own homes.

Addressing a large gathering of residents who attended the ceremony, the Head of State urged Kenyans to disregard those he described as “naysayers” who are primarily focused on divisive and tribal politics.

Raila Odinga, who accompanied the President, affirmed his commitment to collaborating with the current administration to address the challenges faced by Kenyans.
Odinga emphasized that the five-acre land donation will significantly contribute to meeting the housing needs of local residents, adding that the project will include essential amenities such as schools and hospitals.
