NAIROBI, KENYA — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced his departure from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Gachagua stated that his decision stemmed from the realization that he no longer aligns with the ruling party’s prevailing principles.
In a statement released on Monday, Gachagua declared that his resignation is effective immediately.
“By a copy of this letter, you are notified that I have officially resigned from the UDA Party with immediate effect. I have made this decision in knowledge of the ideals of the Party we believed in and so were millions of Kenyans, but now has turned out as the most dangerous political moment for the people and the Republic of Kenya in the retrogressive philosophy of an unfit class to govern our Nation,” the former Deputy President stated.
“It is my patriotic duty as a Kenyan, believing in the rule of law and millions of others who do so, in the sanctity of our constitution and respecting our forefathers and freedom fighters in the cause for our great nation, that I tender my resignation from the party,” he added.
Gachagua asserted that the party has squandered a crucial opportunity for Kenya to achieve economic, social, and political progress.
He further alleged that the government has failed to deliver on the majority of its campaign promises.
Gachagua specifically cited sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), housing and settlement, and the Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy, where he claims promises have gone unfulfilled.
This development follows months after Gachagua’s impeachment, during which senators voted to uphold at least five charges against him.
