NAIROBI, Kenya — Candidates, parents and schools attempting to view 2025 KCSE examination results online have encountered a temporary glitch on the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) results portal via the URL https://results.knec.ac.ke/, hours after the results were officially released.
The issue emerged about an hour after Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced the results, leaving many users unable to log in and access individual scores on the council’s designated website.
Officials at KNEC have described the problem as technical and temporary, attributing it to the high volume of simultaneous traffic on the portal as tens of thousands of students, parents and schools attempt to check results immediately after they go live.
Similar issues have been reported in past result releases, when heavy demand overwhelmed the system.
The portal, accessed via the official results link, is a digital-only platform introduced after the discontinuation of the SMS results service, a move also seen in previous examination cycles.
KNEC’s results system went live ahead of the official announcement, allowing users to prepare to check their scores once released. However, the volume of concurrent access appears to have exceeded server capacity at peak login times, generating delays and intermittent error messages for users.
In response to similar challenges in past years, KNEC and the Ministry of Education have urged candidates and parents to be patient and repeatedly attempt access during off-peak hours when traffic on the portal eases.
To check their results, candidates are instructed to enter their index number and one of their registered names, and accept the privacy notice before their scores appear, according to official guidance issued earlier in the day.
The temporary glitch comes amid broader efforts by KNEC to modernise result dissemination and to discourage the widespread use of SMS short codes, which were previously relied upon but discontinued due to limitations and the potential for errors.

At the same time, education officials continue to warn the public about fraudulent social media schemes and fake websites circulating at results season that promise results access or “grade-fixing,” especially via unofficial channels. Authorities have repeatedly stressed that only the official KNEC portal should be used to obtain authentic results.
The review and verification period for results queries will remain open for 30 days, during which candidates must channel any concerns through their school administrators.
Further data such as school performance statistics and subject-level breakdowns are expected to be published once the portal stabilises and user access improves.
