KERICHO, Kenya — A tragic road accident at the Tunnel area along the Londiani-Muhoroni road has claimed at least six lives and left 46 others nursing injuries of varying severity. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday morning, January 6, 2026, involved a passenger bus and a trailer.
According to authorities, the bus—operated by Uwezo Sacco—was traveling toward Kisumu when it collided with the back of a trailer. Kericho County Police Commander James Ngetich confirmed that both vehicles were moving in the same direction at the time of the impact.
“Confirming the incident, Kericho County police commander James Ngetich said the accident happened after the bus, belonging to Uwezo Sacco, rammed into the rear of the Trailer under unclear circumstances.”
The impact of the crash was devastating, resulting in the immediate deaths of five passengers and the bus driver at the scene.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after to find dozens of passengers trapped or injured within the wreckage.
Thirty individuals sustained serious injuries and were rushed to medical facilities within Kericho County, including Londiani and Fortenan hospitals, for emergency treatment.
An additional 13 passengers suffered minor injuries; some were treated at the scene and discharged, while others were briefly hospitalized for observation.

Commander Ngetich stated that the exact cause of the rear-end collision remains under investigation. He took the opportunity to issue a stern warning to motorists regarding road safety and vigilance.
He cautioned drivers to be careful while on the road so as to avoid causing unnecessary accidents which could be avoided.
The wreckage of the bus and the trailer have since been towed to the Fortenan Police Station for further forensic examination.
