MASINDI, Uganda — The Uganda Police Force has initiated intensive operational preparations to secure the upcoming 2026 general elections, with top leadership emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach to disorder.
Frank Mwesigwa, the Director of Operations, outlined the force’s strategic priorities while addressing trainees at the Police Training School (PTS) in Kabalye, Masindi.
The directive focuses on securing the electoral process against both logistical threats and criminal opportunism.
Strategic priorities unveiled
Mwesigwa detailed a comprehensive plan designed to protect the integrity of the ballot. He noted that the police are currently equipping officers with the specific skills required to navigate the complex security environment of a national election.

“We are preparing to reinforce security in this election season across the country,” Mwesigwa stated. “I emphasized the need to maintain uninterrupted public order, guarantee safe voter movement, protect electoral materials, neutralize opportunistic criminal activities, and prevent election triggers.”
