LOS ANGELES, United States — The nominations for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards have been unveiled, confirming the continued dominance of Nigerian artists across the African music categories and underscoring the genre’s global influence. The ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Best African music performance showdown
The most anticipated competition is set to take place in the Best African Music Performance category, where four out of the five nominees either hail from Nigeria or feature a prominent Nigerian star, highlighting the country’s status as a powerhouse of contemporary African music.
The formidable contenders for this highly coveted award are:
- Love (Burna Boy – Nigeria)
- With You (Davido Featuring Omah Lay – Nigeria)
- Hope & Love (Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin – Uganda)
- Gimme Dat (Ayra Starr Featuring Wizkid – Nigeria)
- PUSH 2 START (Tyla – South Africa)
African legends compete in global categories
African artists have also made a significant impact in the major global categories, securing nominations for both Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Music Album.
In the Best Global Music Album category, two West African music giants will compete for the prestigious prize:
- No Sign of Weakness (Burna Boy – Nigeria)
- Éclairer le monde – Light the World (Youssou N’Dour – Senegal)
Meanwhile, Africa’s most decorated Grammy artist, the Beninese-French singer Angélique Kidjo, is in the running for another award, having received a nomination for her performance of the track “Jerusalema” in the Best Global Music Performance category.
