KAMPALa, Uganda — A delegation comprising 30 Kenyan tour operators, travel agents, and tourism professionals commenced a seven-day familiarization trip across Uganda on Tuesday. The initiative is designed to provide the participants with firsthand experience of Uganda’s diverse range of tourist offerings.

The extensive tour, which officially began on November 4, was flagged off by Ambassador Paul Mukumbya, Uganda’s Consul-General in Mombasa.

This collaborative effort follows the successful fourth annual Uganda-Kenya Coastal Tourism Conference, which was held in Malindi, Kenya, in October.

Strengthening regional tourism collaboration

The visit aims to strengthen cross-border collaboration and specifically enable the Kenyan agents to more effectively market and package Uganda’s various tourism products for both regional and international travelers.

Ambassador Mukumbya underscored the significance of the hands-on experience for the visiting professionals, stating that the tour allows them to experience Uganda’s top attractions firsthand, “gaining valuable insight into the country’s potential.”

The participants’ itinerary began with a visit to the globally renowned Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the critically endangered mountain gorillas.

Over the seven days, the tour is scheduled to cover a diverse range of sectors, including wildlife viewing, adventure activities, cultural sites, and agri-tourism experiences.

The trip highlights Uganda’s strong commitment to sustainable tourism and reinforces broader regional efforts to strategically position East Africa as a unified, seamless travel hub for global visitors.
