NAIROBI, Kenya — Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has publicly encouraged comedian and human rights activist Eric Omondi to transition into active politics by contesting for the Embakasi East parliamentary seat.
In a social media post published on Monday, November 3, 2025, Jalang’o expressed gratitude to his constituents in Lang’ata for their continued trust and support.
He then used the opportunity to reach out to Omondi, whose activism has garnered a significant public following.
The MP indicated his intent to engage directly with the comedian to secure the support of Omondi’s followers for his own re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 polls.
Jalang’o’s full quote, which he shared on his page, read: “When people have confidence in what you do!! I thank the people of Langata for trusting me with this job! Siasa kidogo kazi kwa wingi!!! @ericomondi nipigie tuongee uniwachie hii mbogi yako, enda usimame Embakasii East, Babu anatoka anapanda juu!”
The specific suggestion to contest for Embakasi East appears to reference the current MP for the constituency, Babu Owino, who has signaled his intention to seek a higher political office in the 2027 General Election.
Babu Owino confirms gubernatorial ambitions
This encouragement comes amid confirmation of Babu Owino’s long-standing interest in the Nairobi gubernatorial position.
In an interview on October 13, 2025, Owino firmly declared his intention to run for the Nairobi governor seat, asserting that no party directive would deter his pursuit of leading the capital.
His statement addressed internal party dynamics within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that he believes could influence the selection process.

“I know that Sakaja will be given the ticket for ODM, and I know how much I’m hated in our own house, but that will not prevent me from chasing my dreams,” he stated.
This declaration solidifies the MP’s previously mentioned aspirations for the top city job, which he has referenced across various public engagements.
Owino’s move has already secured support from parliamentary colleagues, including Mumias East MP Peter Salasya.
Salasya publicly endorsed Owino for the Nairobi governorship earlier in the year, writing on his X account on July 14, 2025:
“In our formation, Hon @HEBabuOwino will be the Governor of Nairobi. Mimi kama Rais na sauti ya ukweli nimeweka mkono. We are all risk takers.”
