KAMPALA, Uganda — Former socialite and self-proclaimed philanthropist Brian Kirumira, popularly known as Bryan White, has been thrust back into the spotlight after a woman reportedly died in a suspicious incident at his residence in the Makindye suburb of Kampala on Monday.
Police have confirmed they are investigating the death of Ms. Caroline Nalubwama, 25, at the home of Mr. Kirumira.
While local media initially reported that Bryan White was in custody, metropolitan police clarified that he is currently being treated as a key suspect in an active investigation.
The incident is reported to have occurred on October 27, 2025, at Bryan White’s residence in Kyamula, Makindye Division. Ms. Nalubwama was rushed to Kiruddu Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police treating death as ‘suspicious’
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, issued a statement confirming the investigation into the fatality. The statement meticulously preserved the police’s caution and the procedural steps taken:
“The territorial police at Katwe are actively investigating the circumstances under which one Nalubwama Caroline, aged 25, allegedly sustained serious injuries resulting in her death.”
ASP Owoyesigyire added that the premises had been cordoned off by detectives to establish the sequence of events.
“A team of detectives visited the scene of crime together with other relevant officers. The scene was examined, documented, and relevant exhibits were recovered to aid in the ongoing investigations.”
The deceased’s body has been transferred to the City Mortuary Mulago for a post-mortem examination. Police also noted that “the suspect”—Bryan White—who reportedly sustained injuries during the incident, is receiving medical attention and has recorded a statement to assist investigators.
“Efforts are underway to retrieve available CCTV footage and interview additional witnesses to piece together the actual sequence of events,” Owoyesigyire concluded.
Gas explosion or homicide?
According to initial reports from Spy Reports, which first covered the story, the cause of death is tentatively believed to have been a gas explosion that severely burned Ms. Nalubwama and caused partial property damage inside the house.
The matter was reported to Katwe Police Station by the victim’s father, Tom Mutyaba, 52, under case reference DEF 73/2025.
Publication sources close to the police investigation confirmed that forensic experts and fire officers examining the scene recovered burnt clothes and damaged curtains, which have been submitted for analysis.
A controversial history of exploitation allegations
The current incident reignites scrutiny on Bryan White, who gained notoriety between 2017 and 2019 for his flamboyant lifestyle, ostentatious wealth displays, and claims of engaging in youth empowerment through the Bryan White Foundation. His public image was often bolstered by associations with top political figures.
However, five years ago, the socialite faced a major public scandal involving multiple allegations of sexual exploitation and physical assault.
The most public of these came from Vivian Mutanda, who alleged in a televised interview that the Bryan White Foundation operated as a front for exploitation. Mutanda claimed she and other young women were supplied with alcohol and coerced into group sex.

Mutanda went further, alleging that Bryan White forced her and others to abort pregnancies, insisting he wanted to keep using them without fathering children. While another accuser, Stella Nandawula, later recanted her claims, Mutanda stood by her testimony, describing Bryan White as “a very evil man” who should never be allowed to abuse anyone’s daughter again.
Following these allegations, Bryan White arranged an exclusive interview, claiming he was suffering from a serious illness and needed oxygen cylinders. He told the then-editor of Daily Monitor, Jacobs Odongo Seaman, that powerful people around President Museveni had blocked his path due to envy of his youth activities, requesting the head of state to reconsider his service.
The subsequent 2021 election cycle saw these youth empowerment drives largely streamlined under the presidency’s wealth creation programs, and Bryan White disappeared from the political periphery.
Despite the gravity of the past public allegations and even Parliament’s calls for his prosecution, Bryan White had largely managed to avoid legal consequence.
This latest incident, however, has irrevocably ended years of relative public quiet, placing him at the center of a homicide investigation.
