KWALE, Kenya — A passenger aircraft carrying 12 people crashed early Tuesday morning in Kwale County while flying from Diani to Kichwa Tembo. The crash, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. local time, was confirmed by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).
The KCAA released a brief official statement shortly after the incident: “Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) wishes to confirm that an aircraft registration number 5Y-CCA, on its way from Diani to Kichwa Tembo, crashed at 0530Z.”
The authority further specified the number of individuals involved in the tragic event: “The aircraft had 12 persons on board. Government agencies are already on site to establish the cause of the accident and its impact,” the KCAA statement added.
Rescue and investigation underway
Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the remote crash site as authorities launched rescue and recovery efforts.
The fate of the 12 passengers and crew members remains unconfirmed, as details about casualties or survivors are yet to be officially released.

The accident has generated widespread concern across the country, with many Kenyans expressing their sympathy for the families affected and demanding a swift and thorough investigation into the cause of the tragedy.

In August, a light aircraft belonging to the medical charity Amref crashed on the outskirts of the capital, Nairobi, killing six people and injuring two others.
