FIFA kicks off global search for 65,000 volunteers for World Cup 2026
Host city leaders for the 2026 FIFA World Cup hold a media availability in New York City on June 9, 2025. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

ZÜRICH, Switzerland — FIFA has officially launched the volunteer application process for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across Mexico, Canada, and the USA. The global football governing body aims to recruit a team of over 65,000 volunteers to assist in various roles for the expanded 48-nation tournament.

In a statement delivered at the program’s launch on Monday, FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the critical role of volunteers in the success of such a monumental event. “Volunteers are the heart, soul and smile of FIFA tournaments,” Infantino said.

“They get to show off their local pride, gain a behind-the-scenes view of the tournament and make memories and friendships that can last a lifetime, while supporting a historic event. We hope interested individuals will join us as we welcome the world to North America in 2026.”

Volunteers will be essential in a number of key areas, including marketing, communications, hospitality, and safety and security. Applicants are not required to have any prior volunteering experience, but must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.

A good command of English is a necessary requirement, while Spanish is desirable for roles in Mexico and French is considered an asset for those in Canada.

The application process is the first step in a timeline that will see successful candidates invited to “Volunteer Team Tryouts” in October 2025, followed by training in March 2026. The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to kick off in Mexico City on June 11, 2026.
